Mastiffs - Breeders - What Does a Rescue Do?
Breed rescues deal with re-homing abandoned Mastiffs and helping the public learn more about the breed and responsible ownership. Anyone who is going to adopt a Mastiff from a rescue organization should contact a few rescues and breed clubs that perform rescue services. After a thorough consideration and a home visit, rescue officers will decide if you will be able to care for a Mastiff properly.
Before contacting a rescue try to educate yourself about Mastiffs all you can. These dogs are said to be hard to own. They need specific living conditions and do not always do well with other animals and humans. Please, do not make a premature decision to adopt a Mastiff.

If your wish to adopt a Mastiff is provoked by everlasting desire of your children to have a big dog as a play companion, forget about Mastiffs. Though loyal, these dogs are said to be good with children when raised together from an early age. They will hardly meet your kids' demands for play companionship and other entertainment. Moreover, large animals can unintentionally hurt children.
Mastiffs - Breeders - In the Backyard
Mastiffs do need a great deal of space. They enjoy stretching out in the shade watching everybody with a sort of philosophic expression. A nice backyard will suit Mastiffs to a T. Yet, Mastiffs are rather dependent on their owners. They need to constantly follow their masters and will not bear loneliness. A cold garage seems to be a poor substitution for a house.
It should be kept in mind that Mastiffs need a special bed. Let it be a quiet place covered with some soft materials. Mastiffs should not sleep on the bare floor since it leads to skin injuries.
Mastiffs - Breeders - Training
Mastiffs are intelligent dogs that do need obedience training. They are said to progress when positive methods are used. Rescue officers will be glad to give you a piece of advice on training your dog. Mastiffs that display behavioral problems are not usually re-homed. Mastiffs - Breeders - Caring for the Coat
Mastiffs are short-coated dogs and therefore, do not need a lot of care. Occasional brushing will be enough to keep their coat healthy. Special attention should be given to wrinkles. Wipe these areas with a damp cloth and check for skin injuries. Wiping your dog's face is necessary since Mastiffs drool.
